I have a 2011 Cascadia with DD15 motor and 10 speed manual. I am losing 1 gallon of coolant every 350 miles. No obvious leak when idle or sitting over night. As soon as i stop running the truck and let it idle, some white smoke coming from exhaust. After a few minutes, the smoke lessens. I only notice the blow by smoke since truck started losing coolant. After 6 hour idle, there are no sign of coolant leaking, no puddle on the ground anywhere. I did oil analysis and it had water in oil. Everything else from analysis is normal. Mechanic says head gasket is blown… Can’t afford to have gasket replaced both in down-time and expense. Looking into a head gasket sealer. Any thoughts?
Replacing the head gasket is going to run you around 14k!!! So if you don’t want to pay to have that done the only sealer I know of thats actually made for semi trucks is made by Titan Sealers. They use a special polymer sealer that can deal with the compression of these big rigs. The other sealers out there are all made of silicate water glass and will just crack off under the diesels compression. A buddy of mine used it in his VOLVO VNL42T300 with the Cummings engine. He had the same problem as you except for the water in oil…
I had the same issue in my 05 Kenworth T300 water in the oil, white smoke and overheating. The Titan sealer got it up and running. I found out that if you have fluids mixing (oil/water or water/oil) the Ttian Semi-Truck Head Gasket Sealer Kit (comes with 4 bottles of sealer each bottle was 32oz. and the kit can treat up to 25 gallon systems) will seal the coolant-side of the problem but you will also need the Titan Semi-Truck Oil Stop Leak Kit to take care of the oil-side seals on the head gasket. Both kits will come with instructions but just remember to always to the coolant-side repair first with the head gasket sealer then you just add the Oil Stop Leak bottles (there will be six 8oz. bottles in the semi-truck oil kit) to the new oil… Both kits are going to run you around 380 - 400 bucks but it got my truck fixed for a hell of a lot less then tearing the engine down.
Don’t even waste your time trying that Blue Devil crap!!! I tried it a International 9200 with the caterpillar engine and all it did was clog my radiator… - If your going to use anything use the Titan stuff. It’s made for these big diesels and shouldn’t clog anything since theres no water glass in it...
Blue Devil clogged it!!!
Blue devil, steel seal, bars are all water glass!!! Worst shit out there. Tried them all with little success. I wish I knew about the Titan sealer a few years ago. Sounds like it could of saved me around 12 grand on a head replacement! Let me know how it works for you.
Decent equipment. Opti-idle trucks don't have APUs. No company-supplied Prepass. Mostly manual transmissions, but fleet starting to move to Autoshifters. Cruise at 65, pedal at 62. OTR has been very good miles. Starting OTR 49 cpm. With two deductions claimed, and full health insurance for one person, I am taking home an average of over 1000/week.
I tried finding the titan sealer on the web and its not easy they don’t advertise as much as the blue devil and bars brands. When I finally did find them I called and talked to their tech department guys and really new their shit. These guys apparently are actual mechanics not sales people. I’ll paste a link to their site for you. https://www.titansealers.com Took me a while to find them hope this helps speed things up for you…
Yeah I guess they do more word of mouth referrals then advertising on the web. You can’t find them at the auto parts store and all you see on the web is blue devil ads all over the place. But I did find out the reason why their the only ones with that polymer sealer it’s because the titan people have the patent on it!!! The other stuff like bars and blue devil have to still use that water glass crap. My friend told me about the titan stuff a few years ago when my engine started losing a little coolant from the head. Wasn’t a bad leak maybe ½ gallon every 2 weeks. Ordered the titan sealer and got it pretty quick and it worked with no clogs. Been fine for going on 3 years now.
