Which sealer is best..?
Replacing a blown head gasket is a big job, I have had
great success using Titan Head Gasket Sealers, But
These sealer products are not a 100 percent for sure fix
but work most of the time if the directions are followed
correctly. The best of the top selling sealers is the Titan
Polymer-Based Head Gasket Sealer. The other sealer
brands like Bars, Blue Devil and Steel Seal are silicate
based and are really not designed for aluminum engines.
Titan repairs lasts the longest averaging about 5 years.
Cadillac Northstar engines are all aluminum and won’t
respond well to silicate-based sealers, (also know as
water-glass). The silicate sealers turn to glass when
cured in the coolant system and due to the expansion
and contraction of the aluminum components of the
engine the cured silicate will crack away from the areas
it attempted to adhere to. Many times once the silicate
cracks away it becomes lodged in areas like heater cores
& radiators causing clogging and additional overheating.
As far as I know, the only non-silicate sealer is made by
Titan Sealers Inc. They offer a polymer-based sealer
instead of the normal silicate. The polymer they use is
able to stay flexible and not crack away from aluminum.
I would say your best choice considering your particular
engine is the Titan Sealer.
Turbo diesel engines create more compression than any
gas engine both on the oil-side and coolant-side of the
engine. Products like Blue Devil are not a good choice as
they may initially seal the head gasket but due to the
higher compression of the turbo diesel engines will crack-
off fairly quickly and you will lose the seal.
Most people with these turbo diesels use Titan as it is not
a silicate type sealer. The Titan sealer uses a special
polymer which can flex with the compression a not crack
off the repair. You can find it at www.titansealers.com
For your aluminum engine your best choice for a head
gasket sealer is going to be the titan polymer-based
sealer it can flex with the aluminum and give you a
lasting seal. The titan sealer people don’t advertise as
much as the blue devil so it’s harder to find but you can
find them on the web.
I’ve had good luck with steel seal on older cars with
steel heads steel block but for your all aluminum engine
your going to want to use the polymer head gasket
sealer made by Titan. Its made for aluminum (it will
work just as good in steel as well) and it stays flexible
so most of the time you get 4 or 5 years out of it before
it wears off. You can actually use it over again if you still
have the car at that time.
You should never use water glass sealers in a diesel.
The compression just cracks the glass sealers right off.
